Hoima

The construction works of the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital Intensive Care Unit have been completed to 100%, with the government now waiting for the installation of equipment and machines.

The unit, which costed over 8 billion Ugandan shillings, has the admission capacity of 20 patients.

This information was revealed during a media tour at the facility, organized by the Ministry of Health.

Ibrahim Bwaga, the Director of Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, stated that the construction of the Intensive Care Unit will help reduce referrals of patients to Mulago and other hospitals outside the region.

The hospital currently receives over 10 patients requiring ICU services daily, including premature babies, accident victims, and women with uterine rupture.

Karim Abdul, the Site Engineer from Excell Constructions Limited, confirmed that all civil works at the hospital are complete, but they are awaiting the arrival of ICU machines, which are currently on a ship.

The facility is expected to be handed over to the government in six months.

Badru Mugabi, the Hoima City RCC, emphasized that the facility will improve service delivery to the people of Bunyoro.

He advised medical doctors at the hospital to prioritize serving the community over personal projects.
