Residents living near Kangombe Forest Reserve in Muhorro Town Council, Kagadi District, have on 10th June 2026 expressed concern over alleged threats of eviction by the National Forestry Authority -NFA.
The affected residents from Kararike, Nyabigata, Kyakajwiga, and Kyakazana in Nyanseke Ward say NFA recently re-opened boundary demarcations of the forest reserve, which they claim extended into their land where they have coffee and banana plantations that support their livelihoods.
The residents are now calling on government intervention to resolve the dispute.
Kagadi Resident District Commissioner, Caroline Nanshemeza, urged communities to avoid encroaching on government forest reserves and to utilize only their legally owned land in order to support environmental conservation.
She also directed local leaders to compile a report detailing the boundary demarcations to help address the matter.
Meanwhile, John Katungwensi from State House encouraged residents to embrace commercial farming and ensure children’s education as government authorities work to resolve land-related concerns.
