Residents of MpeefuYasande Town Council in Kagadi District have rejected the district’s plan to appoint a board to manage the town’s piped water project, arguing that the project is incomplete and not yet operational.
The concerns were raised on Friday July 17th, during a meeting held at the town council offices.
Residents’ representatives Chairman Fred Nkabebasiza of Mpeefu central and Claire Twinomuyambi said the project has remained idle for a long time, describing it as an empty project with non-functional taps. They have demanded Kagadi District authorities not to hand over the project until it is fully operational.
The LCIII Chairperson Robert Ahaisibwe mpeefuYasande town council said residents paid UGX 150,000 each for water connections but many taps remain unconnected while others have no water. He appealed to the Chief Administrative Officer, Resident District Commissioner and other district leaders to ensure the project is fully completed before it is handed over.
Meanwhile, the Kagadi District Communications Officer, George Gulyetonda, said the district failed to appoint the Mpeefu Water Project Management Board due to the low turnout of residents at the meeting.
Gulyetonda explained that the district’s priority was to constitute the board before handing over the piped water project to Umbrella Water for better management, as a board is a key requirement in the handover process.
He added that another meeting will be convened to appoint the board and urged residents of Mpeefu Yasande town council to cooperate and actively participate.
