The Kagadi district LCV Chairperson, Elly Guard Tumusiime, met the retired civil servants to discuss challenges facing pensioners, with a focus on delayed pension payments.
The meeting, held on Thursday at Kagadi Model Primary School, brought together retired government workers who are currently receiving pension benefits.
Tumusiime said the engagement aimed at identifying and addressing the difficulties faced by retired workers, especially those who retired many years ago but are yet to receive their pension payments.
He also called for the formation of an association to unite pensioners and help them collectively address their concerns.
Tumusiime pledged to follow up pension issues with the relevant authorities and urged retirees to cooperate with the Human Resource Office for better service delivery.
Retired head teacher Kugonza Eriab and retired accountant Byabagambi Vincent welcomed the initiative, commending the LCV Chairperson for bringing pensioners together.
They highlighted delayed pension payments as a major concern, noting that some retirees have waited for years without receiving their benefits.
The pensioners also supported the proposal to form an association, saying it will strengthen their voice in addressing their concerns.
While speaking to the Human Resource Department, Jonah Kairungi said there are still unpaid pension arrears from previous years, which have been included in the 2025/2026 budget.
She added that payment depends on submissions from the CAO’s Office, and that the central government has sent a supplementary budget of UGX 79M to cater for gratuity for pensioners in the 2025/2026 financial year.
