Kagadi
Two people have died on spot and others critically injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned several times along Kagadi-Kyenjojo High way in Kasagate cell,Nyamiti ward Muhorro town council this evening.
The deceased have been identified as Gilbert Kanyamatoni in his 20’s and Wilson Businge 27 years all residents of Ibonde Cell in Fort portal city.
Habert Kazoba, one of the survivors of the fatal accident, says they were 8 passengers on board travelling in the Toyota Wish Reg.no UBJ 209R heading to Lira city to attend a wedding ceremony.
He says the driver of their vehicle lost control after he failed to successfully overtake the bank truck and veered off the road killing two on spot, leaving 6 with critical injuries.
Eye witnesses on scene attributed the accident to over speeding and reckless driving.
By press time Kagadi traffic police officers had reached the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
Unfortunately, road accidents have been on the rise in Uganda, with a 78% increase in fatalities in Kampala alone between 2020 and 2023.
Speeding, unsafe overtaking, and violating traffic lights are among the leading causes of these accidents
