The administrators of schools in Kagadi district have decried several challenges as the assessment of the senior four candidates under the new lower secondary school curriculum begins.

The senior Four candidates were briefed on Friday October 11 and on Monday October 14,next week, candidates will sit for Mathematics paper in the morning and Chemistry  in the afternoon under the new curriculum.

Candidates sitting their papers under the old curriculum will start with Chemistry in the morning and Music Aral on Monday Afternoon.

Since the implementation of the new lower secondary school curriculum, educationists have always pointed out lack of instructional materials and limited knowledge among teachers to implement the curriculum.

At Naigana SS a government aided school in Kagadi district,the deputy headteacher Ibrahim Isingoma said they registered 164 candidates,11 enrolled under the old curriculum.

He said that the government delayed to supply text books to effectively facilitate the implementation of the new curriculum and this is likely to affect performance of the learners.

At Kyanaisoke United SS that registered 88 candidates under the new curriculum, the school deputy headteacher Damiano Isingoma said students will find challenges in interpreting questions because the setting formats and structure of the exams have all changed.

Meanwhile at Fountain of Hope SS,Christopher Kusiima one of the school administrators expressed the school’s readiness for the exams on Monday despite some challenges influenced by the new lower secondary school curriculum.

The school administrators asked government to ensure timely delivery of examination papers and also address other logistical challenges to enable the successful implementation of the new curriculum in schools.

They asked candidates not to panic and concentrate on their books to excel in their exams.

Meanwhile in other visited schools such as Bunyoro college SS, St, Margret Mary Girls SS Muhorro, St.Adolf SS and Kagadi SS all government aided schools in the district have also expressed their readiness to begin the exams despite challenges.

Senior Four candidates asked government to allocate more funds in the education sector to facilitate the smooth implementation of the new lower secondary school curriculum program.
