The Buyaga East Member of Parliament Eric Musana has raised concern over the growing rate of absenteeism in schools calling for parents to lead the fight against the vice.

The legislator made the call this afternoon while addressing parents in a PTA general meeting at Ngara Primary School in Kyanaisoke Sub-County Kagadi district.

According to the head teacher’s report, Ngara P/S formally had a total enrollment of over 600 pupils but currently only 261 attend school.

Musana says the high rate of absenteeism at the school is very alarming and requires urgent attention. He asserts that chronic absenteeism effects performance of learners and further exposes young girls to early marriages and teenage pregnancies.

The legislator says the government has played its role of building schools and paying teachers’ salaries, stressing that parents should also fulfill their responsibilities of providing lunch and scholastic materials to children.

The head teacher Ngara Primary School Solomon Musinguzi, says that the school enrollment has drastically reduced from 600 pupils to 261attributing it to rampant cases of school dropout rates in the area.

He says the school faces other challenges such as lack of enough classrooms, indiscipline of learners, lack of a school fence among others.

Musinguzi is urging parents to take their children back to school.

Ngara Primary School recently received a donation of 50 iron sheets from the office of the prime minister to improve accommodation conditions and create a conducive atmosphere for learning.

Speaking to Paradigm FM, Parents lauded the area member of Parliament Eric Musana for the lobby of the iron sheets, vowing to support him in the 2026 elections.
