Kagadi
The government of Uganda in collaboration with international partners have trained and supported beneficiaries of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship program (UWEP) to start up projects that conserve the environment.
The participants drawn from the women groups within Bunyoro sub-region, Central Uganda and Rwenzori Sub-region completed the training on Friday at Kagadi community hall in Kagadi town council Kagadi district.
Mary Natukunda, the Kagadi district gender officer, says the program is funded by the ministry of gender, labour and social development and supported by Germany cooperation of internal development (GIS).
She says women have acquired skills in preparing nursery beds, making briquettes, apiary, weaving baskets, mats, record keeping and marketing.
Natukunda adds that the projects are environmentally friendly and highly profitable to the participants.
She unveils that Kagadi district has so far received 1.3 Billion shillings under UWEP program and the fund has been distributed to 230 women’s groups.
Meanwhile participants including Annet Nantale from Hoima city and Grace Birungi from Burora Sub-County, Kagadi district commended the government for its women’s empowerment programs that have improved their livelihoods.
They say the acquired skills will help them start up income generating projects tailored at improving their homestead incomes.
