Cultural and religious leaders in Bunyoro Sub Region have been urged to advocate for Chimpanzees and Environmental Conservation to protect the apes and the beautiful nature of Bunyoro region.
Barbra Babwetera, Executive Director of Cross Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU), made this call last evening during the closure of a two-day media engagement at Hotel View in Kagadi District.
She emphasized that cultural and religious leaders are respected and believed in by most people, and their support can easily win over the locals to chimpanzee conservation.
Barbra noted that cultural and religious leaders have neglected to educate locals about the significance of chimpanzees in Uganda.
She also encouraged locals to respect chimpanzees, highlighting their genetic similarity to humans, sharing 98.7% of their DNA.
Furthermore, Barbra appealed to cultural and religious leaders to embrace chimpanzee conservation, citing their importance as one of Uganda’s top tourist attractions.
