Kagadi Police in Kagadi district are investigating circumstances under which a mob lynched a man in his 20’s suspected of theft.
The deceased’s particulars were still unknown by press time. His lifeless body was discovered by residents lying on a table in one of the pork joints in Kagadi North Cell,Kagadi town council.
Kagadi police deployed a sniffer dog to track for the suspects behind the murder but the operation did not yield any results.
Ivan Godfrey Mugerwa the chairperson of Kagadi central cell says the deceased suspected to be a thief might have been killed elsewhere by an angry mob and dumped the body to his area of jurisdiction, stressing that the area is a hot spot for harboring criminals.
Another resident who preferred anonymity accused police for always releasing suspects after a short period in custody, asserting that the practice has prompted residents to opt for mob justice.
Addressing residents at the crime scene, the Officer-In-Charge,Kagadi Central Police Station SP Pellan Busingye warned residents against mob justice, advising them to report suspects to police for further management.
She further urged residents to always refrain from tampering with crime scenes to prevent arrests of non criminals in case a sniffer dog is brought to the scene.
The deceased’s body was conveyed to Kagadi hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, as efforts to identify the body and hand it over to its relatives for descent burial were on truck.
