A delegation of Local council three chairpersons from Kagadi district led by the woman MP Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi have presented their memorandum to state minister for transport Fred Byamukama seeking his support and intervention on constraints that need to be addressed to achieve socio economic transformation of the people of Kagadi district.

The memorandum was presented to the minister on Tuesday 13 November, 2024 by the chairperson of Kagadi district local council three chairpersons Peter Mwesigwa Mutebire also the mayor Rugashari town council during a meeting with the minister at his residence in Kikwaya trading center,Kikwaya Sub-County in Kakumiro district.

Among the notable requests in the memorandum are allocating road fund to new town councils and sub-counties,giving Kagadi district more road equipement  units citing its large size, trucks for garbage collection in the town councils, culverts for fixing broken bridges, tarmacking some roads in the town councils of Kagadi,Paacwa,Mabale,Kyenzige and Muhorro town council and upgrading Kagadi market, bus park and taxi-park.

Others are enhancement of salaries for local council political leaders, tarmacking of Muhorro-Ndaiga road, Kyenzige-Rugashari-Kyangwari road, and Isunga-Kikwaya road.

The lc3 chairpersons also requested for the cadre training at Kyankwazi national leadership institute, among others.

In response, the state minister for transport Fred Byamukama also the Bugangaizi West MP revealed that Kagadi district is among the districts in the country that president Yoweri Museven has directed to be given the second road equipment unit because of their huge geographical size.

He asserts that the central government will construct 3 bridges on Kagadi roads and 100 bridges national wide, tarmack 35 additional Kilometers on Hoima-Kyenjojo road in the town councils of Kagadi, Paacwa,Mabale,Kyenzige and Muhorro.

He also promised that government has prioritized in the next financial year budget the tarmacking of Muhooro-Ndaiga and Isunga-Kikwaya roads to promote trade with neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

He further unveiled the government’s plan of construction and renovation of Isunga Police station in Kagadi district, citing historical factors during the NRA liberation struggle.

Additionally, the minister asked local leaders to fight corruption in their areas of jurisdiction where technical staff are swindling funds and failing the implementation of government programs.

Meanwhile, the Kagadi district woman MP Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi hailed Minister Byamukama for supporting Kagadi district especially in the roads sector and for always assisting the district with a grader whenever need arises.

She is optimistic that Kagadi district will shine after their requests submitted to the minister are given priority and implemented by the government.

After the meeting, the minister led the delegation to a study tour at his demonstration farm where he asked the leaders to emulate his example and embrace commercial agriculture to enhance their household incomes.

He also asked the leaders to mobilize the locals to transit from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture to alleviate household poverty.

Minister Byamukama further rallied the people of Bunyoro to come in large numbers on Friday to his demonstration farm where President Yoweri Museven will be hosted to launch the four acre model farming initiative for prosperity.

This initiative was born out of the regional tours undertaken by H.E the President in May 2019, with the main focus on skills development and capacity building in mainly commercial Agriculture, Manufacturing, ICT and services.

The ultimate objective of the initiative is to identify ways of creating wealth and jobs to foster growth in household income and, promotion of industrialization as a key driver of growth in the economy.

During his tour, H.E the President promoted the four-acre model for prosperity, which can support the growing of coffee, fruits, food crops, zero grazing of dairy cattle, poultry, piggery and fish farming.
