An elderly Poultry farmer in Kagadi District is counting losses after a fire outbreak gutted her poultry house, killing 80 birds and spreading to the main house where other property worth millions of shillings was also reduced to ashes.

Florence Ayesigamukama, a resident of Kilaba lower cell in Kilaba ward,Kagadi town council, says the fire started from the kitchen at around 3:pm on Wednesday, before spreading to her poultry house, killing 80 birds.

The fire also spread to the main house, but in her absentia, neighbours managed to fight it and rescued other household property from the blaze.

Stephen Kagwa, the NRM Chairperson for Kagadi town council an eye witness says the cause of the fire is not yet clear but suspects it might have started from the kitchen before spreading to the main house.

He dismissed claims that the fire was caused by an electric circuit, stressing that all extension cables were found intact.

Kagwa says this is the second fire incident happening in the area in less than a six-month period, following another fire incident last year, that gutted staff quarters at Kagadi hospital destroying property.
