Kagadi

The Kagadi district local government commissioned major education projects at Rwendahi and Igwanjura Primary schools in Ruteete and Paacwa Sub-Counties respectively.

The construction of two classroom block, a staff room and water tank of 5000 litres costed a total of 115million shillings while 5 stance VIP latrine costed a total of 32 million at each of the two-government aided primary schools.

The projects at Rwendahi Primary school in Ruteete Sub-County were contracted to Sasali Contractors Ltd while Igwanjura P/S to Shapam Holdings Limited.

The projects were funded under the School Facilities Grant (SFG) program.

Commissioning the projects at both locations, the Kagadi deputy RDC Jeremy Namanya, commended government for the construction of the facilities, saying the establishment of the projects is timely and will help to address the pressing student learning needs.

He asked teachers and parents to play their roles committedly and use the facilities to improve the education standards in their areas.

The Kagadi district LC5 chairman Ndibwami B Yosia who was represented by Peter Ziraba, cautioned school management on ensuring maintenance of government projects to maximize asset lifespan, safety and value for money.

In her remarks, the acting District Education Officer (DEO) Kagadi Beatrace Mbabazi said the district is still grappling with an acute shortage of teachers, saying it is affecting performance and management of government aided schools.

She however said the district has started recruitment of more teachers to address the existing man power challenges.

Madam Mbabazi also warned against teachers’ absenteeism to improve performance in government aided schools.
