Kagadi

The Kagadi Resident District Commissioner, Caroline Nanshemeza, has warned all officials from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to stop charging money from the citizens collecting their National Identity Cards.

Speaking at the launch of the mass national Identity Cards distribution exercise at Kagadi town council headquarters on Thursday, the RDC revealed that her office has received numerous complaints from residents who claim they are being asked to pay fees in order to access their IDs.

Nanshemeza emphasized that the issuance of National IDs is a government service provided at a free cost, warning that any officer found soliciting money will face disciplinary action.

The RDC also cautioned the public against offering bribes to speed up the process, noting that such practices fuel corruption and undermine service delivery.

Nanshemeza called on residents to report any cases of corruption and encouraged all citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their National IDs, highlighting their importance in accessing services and participating in national programs.
