Kagadi
Kagadi District health authorities have heightened surveillance along the shores of Lake Albert to prevent the possible spread of Ebola into the district.
The district disease surveillance officer, Prisca Kanyunyuzi, says health workers have been deployed at major entry and exit points on the lake, including Kabukanga and Kitebere landing sites in Ndaiga Sub- County.
Lake Albert connects Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is currently battling an Ebola outbreak that has reportedly claimed 131 lives as of Tuesday morning.
Speaking to Paradigm FM at the district headquarters Tuesday 19th, Kanyunyuzi said the district will immediately establish Ebola screening centres at the two landing sites to ensure that no infected person enters Kagadi district from the DRC.
She also urged members of the public to observe standard operating procedures, including regular hand washing and sanitizing, avoiding unnecessary movements, handshakes, and crowded social gatherings to curb the spread of the virus.
Kanyunyuzi says common Ebola symptoms include severe headache, high fever, bleeding, intense fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, dehydration, diarrhoea and stomach pain.
Meanwhile, Kanyunyuzi has directed all health facilities in the district to screen every patient for Ebola symptoms to prevent the virus from spreading unnoticed.
She says no Ebola case has so far been confirmed in Kagadi district.
