The Minister of State for Primary Education, Phyllis Chemutai has observed need for an increase in the Ministry of Education budget saying more resources are needed to strengthen the education sector.
Minister Chemutai made the remarks on Friday while officiating at a fundraising drive to support the construction of a secondary school in Kiswara village, Kisojo Sub-county, Kyenjojo District. The project was initiated by the Minister of State for Gender and Culture and Mwenge South Member of Parliament Mary Kamuli Kuteesa.
Addressing participants, Chemutai said education is a key sector that requires greater attention if the country is to achieve meaningful development.
The fundraising event was also attended by the Deputy Attorney General and Kyaka South Member of Parliament, Jackson Kafuzi Karugaba, who urged voters to continue supporting Minister Kamuli Kuteesa, citing her impressive work in promoting development in the area.
Meanwhile, Minister Kamuli, who hosted the event, mobilized fellow Cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament to advocate for increased investment and resources in the education sector.
The function fetched over 30 million and was attended by the Minister of State for Defence, Grace Akifeza; Kyenjojo District Woman Member of Parliament, Spellanza Muhenda; Bright Tom, MP for Kyaka Central; Irene Linda of Fort Portal, among other leaders.
