Three candidates have picked nomination forms to contest for the position of Speaker of Kagadi District Council on the NRM ticket, while one candidate picked forms for the position of Deputy Speaker.
According to the Kagadi District NRM Registrar, Patrick Mbasiima, the candidates for Speaker are Semuga Vincent, the outgoing Kagadi District LCV Vice Chairperson and Workers’ Representative-elect; Guard Gahima, councillor for Ruteete Town Council; and Magazi Jamada, district councillor for Kabamba Sub- County.
Mbasiima says Amos Seburiba, district councillor for Kyanaisoke Sub- County, picked nomination forms unopposed for the position of Deputy Speaker.
Mbasiima says candidates will return nomination forms on Wednesday 20th, for verification between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
He adds that NRM primaries will later be held at JW KATE Hotel starting at 2:00 p.m., where voting will be conducted by lining behind candidates.
Mbasiima has appealed to all the 56 NRM councillors to participate in the elections, which will begin with a caucus meeting chaired by the outgoing Kagadi District LCV Chairperson Yosia Ndibwami.
He also revealed that the general election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions will take place on Thursday 21st at Kagadi District headquarters, giving an opportunity to both NRM and opposition councillors to participate.
Meanwhile, one of the Speaker aspirants, Semuga Vincent, says he is confident of serving effectively, citing his academic qualifications and integrity.
Semuga says his priority is to eliminate violence within the district council and promote unity and togetherness in service delivery.
