Kagadi district has received a consignment of Two hundred ninety eight thousand, nine hundred (298,900) treated mosquito nets from the ministry of health, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to the fight against malaria.
The mosquito nets were delivered on Saturday at the district headquarters by officials from the Ministry of Health and received by the Kagadi district authorities.
The assistant Resident District Commissioner Kagadi-Edward Birungi says the nets will be distributed to the residents at the parish level and the exercise will be supervised by the parish chiefs.
He has warned residents against misusing mosquito nets.
According to Birungi, in most cases, when they distribute mosquito nets, residents tend to misuse them by using them as wedding gowns, fishing nets and construction materials, in poultry projects.
On this note, he advised the sub-county chiefs and community Development Officers (CDOs) to watch whoever is misusing mosquito nets, vowing that they would face arrest.
Kanyunyuzi Priscar, the Kagadi District disease surveillance focal person who spoke on behalf of DHO Kagadi, said that the distribution of the nets to beneficiaries will kick off any time from now after preparations are complete.
She explains that the mosquito nets will be distributed at the parishes by local council leaders and village health team members.
Kanyunyuzi says households will receive nets corresponding to the numbers of their occupants and asked the residents to embrace the exercise in the fight against malaria in the district.
The Kagadi district Lc5 chairperson Yosia Ndibwami says the distribution of the mosquito nets is timely and cautioned residents on proper use to fight malaria spread.
He also asked residents to embrace other malaria preventive measures such as clearing bushes and eliminating stagnant water around their homes to effectively reduce malaria transmission.
