Kakumiro

Two children have been reported dead after lightning struck them in Mitembo Village, Kasambya Sub-County, in Kakumiro District.

According to Kenneth Kalisa, the father of the deceased children, the incident occurred during noon hours when a heavy rain accompanied by lightning hit the area.

He said the children were inside the house with their mother, who was winnowing groundnuts, but later he heard their mother shouting and crying.

Kalisa has identified the deceased as Allen Nasaazi, aged four years, and Nabijumba Agasa, aged six months old both his children.

Meanwhile, Julius Sewante, the Local Council 3 chairperson for Kasambya Sub-County while speaking to our reporter, expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.

He appeals to residents of Kasambya and the general public to be careful during the rainy season by ensuring that protective measures are in place to prevent lightning strikes.

By the time of compiling this story, the bodies of the deceased children were still inside the house and residents were at the scene waiting Kakumiro Police to arrive.
