Teachers in Kagadi district and Uganda at large were urged to invest part of their earnings in productive activities other than continuously acquiring multiple loans from various financial institutions.

The call was made by the Buyaga East MP Eric Musana while officiating at the teachers’day celebrations held at Bishop Rwakaikara P/S in Kagadi town council Kagadi district over the weekend.

He said the country is alarmed at the number of teachers being weighed down by multiple debts.

The legislator said multiple loans cannot help teachers to develop, adding that his office has started sensitizing teachers about financial discipline and the dangers of borrowing multiple loans from various financial institutions in the country.

He further encouraged teachers to work hard and stop depending on multiple loans, saying it is not good for them as salary earners.

Musana said teachers unlike other professions such as engineers,Doctors among others are still earning less salary and working under harsh conditions.

He promised to raise these concerns on the floor of parliament and advocate for better remunerations and welfare for teachers.
