Kagadi
Residents of Kagadi district on Wednesday11 Dec 2024 shunned the commemoration of the belated World AIDs day for Kagadi district held in Muhorro town council with no good reason.
The event held at Kyaruboija playground,Kapyemi in Muhorro Town Council, attracted a few people mostly civil servants.
The rest of the town’s residents continued with their usual business.
Paradigm FM journalists also observed that the top district leaders were also a no show at the function.
Justine Aisha Tumwebaze the health educator Kagadi district said, they organized the event to create public awareness to reduce the high prevalence rate of HIV infections in the district.
She says that Kagadi district Aids prevalence rate stands at 6.4% in Women and 5.9% in Men thus asking the community to guard against further infections.
She says some of the activities done were HIV and Tuberculosis testing, antenatal, vaccination of children, and these were delivered by Bailer Uganda in collaboration with Kagadi general hospital.
Tumwebaze stresses that the district selects commemoration venues considering the high HIV prevalence rates in a given area.

Dr.Aston Mucunguzi from Bailer Uganda applauded the district leadership for having organized the day and the community for embracing their health services despite low turn ups.

Meanwhile some residents lauded government and Baila Uganda for the extension of health services to their area on the celebration day.
They attributed the low turn to poor mobilization by the district leadership.

This year’s world Aids day commemoration was held under the theme “Accelerating Interventions to End AIDS by 2030”.
