Kagadi
Kagadi district local government has approved a Shs 54.8 Billion budget for the 2026/2027 Financial Year, with the education sector taking the lions share.
This passed budget figure surpasses that of the current FY2025/2026 budget with a 10 percent increment which was over 48billion shillings including the supplementary budget.
The budget was passed during a council sitting chaired by the deputy speaker Amos Ssebuliba at the JW Kate hotel in Kagadi town council Kagadi district.
Ssebuliba had stepped in to chair the council session after speaker Magezi Muwonge had been nominated to fill the position of the chairperson Kagadi hospital management board but later rejected by councillors for political reasons.
In the approved budget presented by the secretary for finance, planning and administration Magezi Jamada Francis, Education takes the largest share of the budget, with 44% allocated to address major staffing gaps, classroom construction, and maintenance.
Health follows with 10.522Bn (19%), Production and marketing 3.67Bn (7%), Administration 8.42Bn (15%),Roads and Engineering 1.69Bn (3%),Natural resources 0.5Bn (1%),Water 0.856 Bn (2%),Statutory Bodies 2.818Bn (5%),Community based services0.774Bn (1.6%),Finance 0.442Bn (1%),Planning0.357Bn (1%),Internal Audit 0.145Bn (0.2%) and Trade industry and local development 0.14Bn (0.2%).
Speaking after the approval, Magezi said the budget will be majorly funded by the central government transfers, local raised revenue and donor funding.He noted that while the budget is ambitious, low local revenue and delayed central government remittances remain significant hurdles to service delivery.
The council emphasized its commitment to strengthening planning, transparency, and efficient use of public resources as it embarks on the 2026/2027 financial year.
The new financial year is set to commence on July 1, 2026.
