Kagadi
Hundreds of catholic pilgrims have today thronged Sion Marian shrine in Ruteete Sub-County,Kagadi district to mark an annual pilgrimage of the apparition of Mother Mary.
Christians started thronging to Sion shrine for pilgrimage after the apparition of Mother Mary at the site on 11 January, 1974.
Formally, Mugarike catholic parish used to celebrate the day on 15th August every year, but in the diocese’s broader strategy to promote local pilgrimage sites, the celebration date was changed to 11th January for all Christians under Kagadi vicariate to celebrate the apparition day jointly.
Speaking as a chief guest at Sion on Saturday,Capt.Elias Alineitwe from the UPDF Engineering Brigade challenged parents to prioritize children’s education to fight poverty and curb criminality in communities.
Capt. Alineitwe supported the development of Sion Catholic shrine with over 2milion Uganda shillings.

The Bishop Hoima catholic diocese Vincent Kirabo represented by Pastoral Coordinator Rev.Fr. Paul Bigirwa praised Kagadi vicariate for revamping and developing the Sion pilgrimage site.
He cautioned politicians to shun politics of divisionism and promote peace as the country heads for the 2026 general elections.

The function was graced by the Kagadi district woman MP Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi,East African legislative Assembly(EALA) MP Denis Namara,the director Youth Alive Uganda James Byarugaba who contributed IM shs each towards the development of Sion Shrine.
