The Belgian Development Agency, Enabel, has donated five motorcycles to five Village Health Savings and Loan Associations in Kiryanga and Kyenzige sub-counties in Kagadi District.
The handover ceremony, held at the Kagadi District Headquarters in Kagadi Town Council, was presided over by Kagadi Deputy Resident District Commissioner Jeremy Namanya.
The motorcycles, donated under the Access to Health Care through Saving for Health programme, are intended to improve community mobility and access to healthcare, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
The beneficiary groups include Abeteraina Farmers Group, Tweyambe Farmers Group and Kyabikamba Motherland Catering Group from Kiryanga Sub-county, as well as Nyabuhike Women’s Group and Itahiro Women’s Group from Kyenzige Sub-county.
Handing over the motorcycles this afternoon, Namanya urged the groups to use the monocycles for their intended purpose and support community development.
A Social Protection Expert at Enabel, Sharon Kensita, said the agency trains community groups to save money for health emergencies, which members can access as interest-free loans when they need medical care.
She added that the programme aims to improve access to healthcare and promote economic wellbeing among communities in hard-to-reach areas.
The beneficiaries have thanked Enabel for the support, saying the programme has helped them develop a saving culture and prepare financially for medical emergencies.
