The Minister for Works and Transport, Hon. Byamukama Fred, has commended the progress made on the construction of the Mityana–Mubende Road by the project contractors.
During his second supervision visit, conducted on 10th July, 2026, three weeks after his previous inspection, the minister assessed the 86-kilometre Mityana–Mubende Road project, which is being constructed by Serbian contractor Energo Project.
On June 12, during his first inspection, Hon. Byamukama criticized the slow pace of construction, citing alleged corruption-related issues that had delayed the project.
Following inspection carried out on 10th July, the minister expressed satisfaction with the improvements registered on the road project. He, however, urged the contractor to double its efforts to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible.
The 86-kilometre Mityana–Mubende Road has been under construction for the past five years. By the time of the minister’s initial inspection, only 36 kilometres had been completed. He noted that significant progress has since been made.
Hon. Byamukama also observed that the road was originally scheduled for completion in 2024, but the contractor has not yet finished the project.
The minister pledged to carry out similar inspection visits on road projects across the country. He said the government, under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni, has released funds for road construction, but some self-seeking individuals have misused the resources, leading to unnecessary delays.
He warned contractors against engaging in corruption, stressing that there will be no room for corrupt practices during his tenure.
Hon. Byamukama also appealed to motorists to drive carefully, especially on newly completed sections of the road, in order to reduce road accidents.
