An invasion of a chimpanzee has caused fear among residents of Kahanama Lc1 in Burora Sub-County Kagadi district.
John Bosco Tumusiime a resident of Kahanama village said that the animal invaded the area on Sunday morning triggering fear and tension in the area.
He added that currently, some parents fear sending children to fetch water. The stray Chimpanzee is believed to have come from the degraded Bugoma forest in Burora and Rugashari Sub-counties and neighboring Kikuube district.
Other residents said that although the Chimpanzee hasn’t caused any harm, there is an urgent need by officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority to come and trap the ape from the area.
They are worried that the chimpanzee may turn violent and cause havoc in their village.
Residents of Nyamiti in Muhooro town council, Kinyarugonjo and Kyanaisoke Sub-Counties have so long suffered invasion from chimpanzees straying into their homes and gardens destroying crops and causing harm to their lives.
By press time, our efforts to get a comment from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials were unsuccessful.
