Residents of Nankurabye Cell in Kagadi Town Council, Kagadi District, were left in shock after the body of a four-year-old boy who had recently gone missing from school was discovered in a nearby pond.

The deceased has been identified as Twinamasiko Josephat, a learner at Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School located in Nankurabye Cell, Kagadi Town Council.

The deceased is the son of Mbonimpa Vian, a resident of Ruteete West Cell in Ruteete Town Council, Kagadi District.

His body was discovered on Saturday in a pond located a few meters from the school by local residents who had organized a search for the missing child.

According to preliminary information from residents and relatives, the boy reportedly went missing on Tuesday evening from the school where he had been staying as a boarding learner.

Speaking to reporters, George Kibirango the Lc1 Chairperson of the area, appealed to matrons and patrons in various schools to always remain vigilant about the safety of children under their care.

He also urged parents to enroll children in boarding sections only when they are old enough to manage such environments.

Meanwhile, Seziya Deogracious the uncle of the deceased, said the family had been searching for the child together with residents since Tuesday evening.

He noted that the family is devastated following the discovery of the boy’s body.

The Director of Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School, Jackson Kwesiga, expressed deep regret over the death of the learner.

He said the circumstances surrounding the child’s death appear suspicious, alleging that the boy could have been murdered and his body later dumped in the pond.

By press time, police had taken the body to Kagadi General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

However, police on Thursday arrested a suspect who allegedly made phone calls demanding one million shillings from the family in exchange for the boy’s release before the body was discovered.

The suspect has been identified as John Tugume, a 30-year-old resident of Kanyegaramire Cell in Kyenzige Town Council, Kagadi District.

He is currently in police custody to assist with investigations.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the Albertine Regional Police spokesperson were futile by press time.
