Thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country on Tuesday 27th Janaury, 2026 thronged Uganda Martyrs catholic shrine in Katoosa Kyenjojo district to commemorate and seek the intercession of St.Adolf Tibeyarirwa.

Tibeyarirwa born of Myeri Katoosa catholic parish in the present Kyenjojo district was the only Ugandan martyr who was from the Tooro region.

Over 44,000 pilgrims attended the celebrations up from 37,200 pilgrims who attended last year-2025.

The mass that was attended by various pilgrims from different walks of life was led by the Bishop of Hoima catholic diocese Rt. Rev.Vincent Kirabo.

He urged Christians to remain focused and stick to their faith amidst devil and earthly temptations.

Bishop Kirabo commended pilgrims’ resilience who walked long distances to reach the shrine, enduring fatigue and pain.

The main celebrant His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha the archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese asked believers to remain merciful and always take lessons of confession and strong beliefs from the Uganda martyrs.

He thanked the government of Uganda for gazetting Katoosa Martyrs Shrine as pilgrimage and tourism site.

Rt. Rev Robert Muhiirwa the Bishop of Fort portal diocese and the host, thanked pilgrims for turning up in big numbers to celebrate the day.

Bishop Muhiirwa also unveiled the team that will lead the construction and development of the Katoosa faith-tourism site.

The function was graced by political leaders, clergy, Christians from different religious denominations, pilgrims from neighbouring countries, among other distinguished guests.
