Kagadi

The Kagadi district Inspector of Schools, Omukwenda Alinda, has urged parents to enroll their children in short-term skills training programmes during school holidays to equip them with practical and entrepreneurial skills.

Speaking on an education programme on Paradigm FM on Saturday, Alinda said keeping children engaged in productive activities during holidays helps prepare them for future income-generating opportunities.

He encouraged parents to involve children in home-based businesses, assign them domestic responsibilities and introduce them to activities such as livestock rearing.

Alinda said parents should teach children how to own and manage domestic animals so they can earn some money by the time schools reopen.

Meanwhile, Butumba Primary School Headteacher Charles Tumusiime has urged parents to engage all children in productive holiday activities, regardless of their class level.

Tumusiime challenged parents to identify practical activities that can keep children occupied at home while also contributing to family income.

He cited tomato growing, goat and pig rearing, and poultry farming as some of the activities that can help children develop entrepreneurial skills while remaining productive during the holidays.
