Kagadi
Parents at Katete Primary School in Kagadi Sub-county have clashed over allegations that pupils were being forced to attend a Catholic Mass organized to pray for Primary Seven candidates.
The disagreement reportedly began when pupils belonging to the Faith of Unity declined to attend the mass, prompting some to alert their parents, who rushed to the school.
The situation escalated in the afternoon, during a harmonization meeting chaired by Buyaga East Inspector of Schools, Alice Claire Aganyira, with parents reportedly engaging in verbal exchanges that later turned physical.
Speaking after the meeting, Aganyira condemned the clashes, emphasising that Katete Primary School is a government-aided institution serving learners from different religious backgrounds.
She said pupils should not be forced to participate in religious activities against their beliefs and pledged to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the school head teacher, Rosemary Kabonesa, said parents had previously agreed that pupils would attend church services during designated prayer times.
She added that the school provides both religious and academic instruction to learners.
Katete Primary School is a government-aided institution founded on the Catholic faith.
