The Buyaga West Member of Parliament Barnabas Tinkasimire has intervened to rescue residents of Buswaka ward in Kyaterekera town council from eviction threats.

Last week, residents from villages of Lyanda A&B, Muzizi A&B, Katerera and Muruha petitioned the Member of Parliament after one Agnes Korugyendo allegedly threatened to evict them claiming ownership of their land.

On Thursday Sep,25, Tinkasimire led a surveyor to the contested land to clearly demarcate the area and resolve the conflict.

Addressing residents at Lyanda SDA church, the legislator said that recently, many land grabbers processed titles on people’s land in greater Mpeefu and the government’s delay to compensate the title-holders opened room for grabbers to sell the titles to the tycoons who are now threatening to evict residents staying on the contested lands.

Tinkasimire urged the residents to remain calm and continue carrying out commercial farming activities on their lands to generate income for educating their children, as government finds an everlasting solution to the land problem.
