The Kagadi district Woman Member of Parliament Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi has urged government to fulfill its earlier promises of enhancing teachers’ salaries to allow them return to class for the broader benefit of the learners.

She made the call on Tuesday 24 Sep,2025 in an interview with Paradigm FM in regard to the countrywide teachers’ strike that started on Monday Sep, 15, 2025 last week.

The countrywide strike has significantly disrupted the education sector.

MP Janepher says that teachers play a big role in uplifting the education standards of the country and therefore deserve a better remuneration.

She stresses that government should fulfill its earlier promises of harmonizing salary disparities for the educationists, noting that selective salary enhancements in the education sector were unfair.

Despite coinciding with teachers on their salary demands, MP Janepher however urges them to remain patriotic and return to class to help finalists pass their exams given that the national exams are near.

She asked teachers’ to prioritize learners’ performance over salary enhancements, stressing that this is the critical time candidates should be supported to pass their UCE and PLE exams slated for early October and November respectively.

MP Janepher Mbabazi reassured the teachers that the Government remains committed to inclusive salary enhancement.

But for the meantime, she rallies parents to protect their children and engage them in academic work by creating for them time for revision and discussions while at home as they wait for teachers to harmonize with government.
