Kagadi
Police in Kagadi District have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of Bugwara Parish Chief, Edgar Kunihira.
The suspect has been identified as Matia Basiima, a longtime friend of the deceased and a resident of Kyamasega Village in Nyabutanzi Sub-county.
According to Peter Amara, the former Kibaale District LC5 Chairman and father of the deceased, Kunihira went missing on Wednesday last week.
Amara says the family later received phone calls from people demanding 200,000 shillings in ransom for his release.
However, the search turned tragic after Kunihira’s body was found burried in a banana and coffee plantation at their home in Mambugu LC1.
Kunihira’s mother, Pauline Amara Narongo, described her son as a humble and hardworking youth who had embraced commercial farming.
She has called for justice and urged security agencies to arrest all those involved in the murder.
Meanwhile, Ensonga Team Chairperson and Pan-Africanist Eric Musana condemned the killing and expressed concern over the rising cases of murder and criminality in the district.
He has urged residents to always resolve conflicts through lawful means.
Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson SP Allan Julius Hakiza has confirmed the arrest of Basiima, saying he is being held to aid investigations.
Hakiza has urged residents to cooperate with police by providing information that could help identify and arrest other suspects.
Kunihira died at the age of 27 and will be buried today Wednesday, October 7, in Mambugu Cell, Kagadi Town Council.
