Police have called on mourners to adhere to security guidelines ahead of the send-off of the late Tooro Kingdom King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, Saturday.
Speaking to Paradigm FM at Karuziika Palace in the afternoon, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said security has been deployed at the three main venues for Saturday’s ceremonies — St. John’s Cathedral, Karuziika Palace and Karambi Tombs.
Rusoke said ambulances and health workers will also be available to respond to medical emergencies.
He has urged mourners to follow traffic rules and the guidance of traffic officers.
Rusoke also appealed to the public to guard against theft and hand over any lost child or property to security officers for proper identification and recovery.
Still at Karuzika Palace, Lawrence Akugizibwe, Mwenge North Member of Parliament and chairperson of the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus, said preparations for the burial are in their final stages.
Akugizibwe is advocating for the construction of a cancer hospital and a stadium to be named after the late King Oyo, in honour of his contribution to development and sports in Tooro.
Paradigm FM has also visited St. John’s Cathedral and found preparations for Saturday’s funeral service complete.
Archbishop His Grace Steven Kazimba Mugalu will preside over the funeral service at St John’s Cathedral, assisted by Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo, Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese.
During the service, only four speeches will be delivered, namely: King Oyo’s sister, Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale; the Queen Mother Best Kemigisa; the head of the Babiito royal clan, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi; and President Yoweri Museveni or his representative.
The Dean of St. John’s Cathedral, Rev. Canon Robert Abigaba, has described the late King Oyo as a supportive and God-fearing leader and calls on the public to attend the service and give him a befitting send-off.
King Oyo died in the United States on August 27th, 2026, at the age of 34.
He was crowned the 12th King of Tooro Kingdom on September 12th, 1995, at the age of three, following the sudden death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
