The Kagadi Grade One Magistrate’s Court has adjourned five LC1 election petitions and ordered the parties to first seek mediation and reach consensus.
The court, presided over by Grade One Magistrate Edward Kayuuki, noted that the Electoral Commission, which was listed as a respondent in the petitions, had not been served and was not represented in court.
One of the petitions was filed by Byabajungu Kyaligonza, also known as Bibiana, from Mambugu LC1 in Kagadi Town Council.
She is challenging the election of NRM flag bearer and current LC1 chairperson Sunday Oscar.
Bibiana alleged that her agents and supporters were harassed during the election and that voting was not completed and votes were not properly counted.
However, she has told court that Sunday Oscar won the election with 192 votes against her 168, bringing the total number of voters to 360.
She also alleged that Sunday Oscar and his supporters had extra ballot papers during the election, which was conducted through lining up.
The magistrate directed the two parties to seek mediation, which they agreed to be led by Msgr. Peter Kaberenge, the Episcopal vicar of Kagadi Vicariate.
The parties will return to court on September 23rd, 2026. If mediation fails, the court will proceed with the case.
Other petitions were filed from Buyaga West, including Kyabakara in Muhorro Town Council and Nyamabaale C in Bwikara Sub-County.
The parties in these cases were also directed to seek mediation led by Ven. Rev. Capt. Wilson Atuhiire the archdeacon of Katikengeye Archdeaconry and report back to court on September 20th, 2026.
