Residents of Kagadi Town Council are calling on authorities to urgently bury a decomposing body that has reportedly been kept at Kagadi District General Hospital mortuary for the past two weeks.
The body is said to have been brought to the mortuary by police after they failed to trace its relatives.
Residents and traders near the hospital said the strong smell is affecting their businesses and daily activities, while Boda Boda riders said they are losing customers.
Kagadi District General Hospital Administrator, Simon Peter Tumusiime, confirmed the problem, saying the hospital has no money to bury the body.
He said the burial would cost at least Four hundred thousand shillings (UGX 400,000) which neither the hospital nor the town council currently has.
The Kagadi Resident District Commissioner, Caroline Nanshemeza, said residents reported the matter to her, and she has informed the relevant authorities to ensure the body is buried.
Reports indicate that there are currently more than two bodies in the mortuary, some of which have already started decomposing.
