Kagadi
A total of Fifteen thousand (15,000) cocoa seedlings have been distributed to youth in Kagadi District as part of efforts to fight poverty, create employment opportunities, and improve household incomes.
The seedlings were distributed on Saturday at Kagadi Community Hall to 90 youth beneficiaries from different sub-counties, with each receiving 170 seedlings.
The Kagadi District Youth Chairperson, Alinda Corine, said he secured the seedlings from Kabarole District to support young people in Kagadi to venture into cocoa growing.
He says the initiative is aimed at empowering youth economically and promoting business development in the district.
Alinda called on government agencies and other stakeholders to support youth programmes, saying empowering young people is key to addressing unemployment.
Alinda urged the beneficiaries to plant and properly manage the seedlings so they can generate income and improve their livelihoods.
He also encouraged other youth who did not benefit from the programme to seek cocoa seedlings and invest in cocoa farming as a way of securing their future.
Meanwhile, the Mabaale Sub-county Youth Chairperson, Tembo Michael, thanked Alinda Corine for lobbying for the seedlings.
The beneficiaries pledged to plant and utilize the seedlings productively, with some promising to share with neighbours to expand cocoa growing in their communities.
