Kagadi
The Kagadi District Electoral Commission has conducted elections for women’s councils at parish level, with most candidates going through unopposed.
The elections started early morning in several parishes across the district.
In Kibanga Ward, Kagadi Town Council, all candidates were declared unopposed. Asaba Mary was elected chairperson, with Tibesigwa Jane as vice chairperson, Nakamya Faustine as secretary for finance, and Karunga Rosemary as publicity secretary.
In Kitegwa Ward, candidates were also declared unopposed. Kahwa Grace was elected chairperson, Asiimwe Sunday vice chairperson, Omuhereza Asaba Rubega publicity secretary, Naliwawe Jane treasurer, and Asiimwe Caroline secretary for finance.
However, voting was conducted in Kiraba Ward. Banura Night has won the chairperson position with 19 votes, defeating Rose Nkoba, who secured nine votes.
Ategeka Noeline was elected vice chairperson, Atugonza Hope Shakira secretary, Mukanoheri Noeline publicity secretary, and Busingye Roy secretary for finance.
Ahaisiibwe Noeline, who served as the registrar in Kiraba Ward, says the elections were peaceful, with most candidates going through unopposed.
The newly elected chairpersons for Kibanga and Kiraba wards, Asaba Mary and Banura Night, have thanked voters for their support. They pledge to work hard to improve service delivery.
Meanwhile, voters who spoke to Paradigm FM have called on the new leaders to improve service delivery.
They want the leaders to focus on education, youth skills development, access to clean water and electricity, and support for women’s savings groups and elderly empowerment programs .
Kagadi
In a related development, Kagadi Town Council Elections Supervisor Swaibu Kagadisa says the Women’s Council elections in the area were conducted successfully, with no major incidents reported.
Kagadisa was speaking to Paradigm FM this evening at the Electoral Commission offices in Kyengaju Cell, Kagadi Town Council.
He says most candidates in the Women’s Council elections in Kagadi Town Council were declared unopposed.
Kagadisa commended the candidates and voters for participating in what he described as a free and fair election.
Kagadisa has urged candidates who were not elected to remain calm and wait for another opportunity to contest in five years.
Kagadisa also announced that elections for the LC-11 positions will be held next Monday, August 10th.
He called on candidates contesting for the LC-11 positions to prepare for the elections.
