Kagadi
The Uganda Land Commission has begun sensitizing residents of Kagadi Town Council ahead of the issuance of more than 1,500 free land titles to Bonafide occupants.
The sensitization meeting was held on Friday morning at Kyomukama Church of Uganda and targeted residents living on Block 53, Plot 9, land that was purchased by the government from the family of the late Jackson Rubwama, an absentee landlord, to secure land ownership for residents.
Speaking during the meeting, Uganda Land Commission official John Kasenge Tom Fisher said a total of 1,519 land titles will be issued free of charge to beneficiaries from 12 villages, including Kyomukama A and B, Kasebere A and B, Kijonjomi, Nyangereka, Bukungwe, and other areas within Kagadi Town Council.
He said the land will be surveyed, subdivided, and titles issued to all verified lawful occupants.
Kasenge also explained that the surveying and demarcation exercise will take into account environmental regulations, with some plot boundaries adjusted where they border wetlands to provide the required buffer zones.
He urges surveyors and members of the demarcation committee to carry out their work professionally and called on residents to cooperate throughout the exercise.
Kagadi Resident District Commissioner Caroline Nanshemeza welcomed the initiative and pledged security support during the surveying and demarcation process.
She encouraged residents to work closely with the survey teams to ensure a smooth, transparent, and peaceful land titling exercise.
Residents who attended the meeting welcomed the government programme, saying the land titles will protect them from land grabbing and ownership disputes while strengthening their property rights.
They also said secure land ownership will improve household livelihoods and support development in the area.
The meeting was attended by Kagadi District LCV Chairperson Ellyguard Tumusiime, Kagadi District Woman Member of Parliament Margaret Naziwa, Kagadi Town Council LCIII Chairperson William Mugenyi Kasaija, and other district and local leaders.
