Kagadi

A 60-year-old night watchman was found dead while on duty in Kabuga B Cell, Muhorro Sub-county, Kagadi District.

The deceased identified as Rwabuyaga Bagada. He was working as a night watchman at a bar owned by Kabuga Parish Chief Julius Kyaligonza.

Kabuga B LC1 Chairperson Harbert Byaruhanga says he received information about the incident on Monday early morning and immediately informed the bar owner before reporting the matter to police.

He says the deceased was found inside his shelter, with several empty alcohol bottles nearby and his bow and arrows lying beside him.

The cause of death has not yet been established.

Byaruhanga has urged residents to register people living in their communities through local council authorities to improve security and accountability.

The deceased’s wife, Oliver Mbabazi, says the cause of her husband’s death is still unclear.

She says she does not know his biological relatives because they had lived together without close contact with his family.

Mbabazi adds that the family has decided to bury him on her land since his relatives cannot be traced.

However, members of the wife’s family questioned the decision to release the body without a post-mortem examination, saying they wanted the cause of death established before the burial.

When contacted for a comment, Kabuga Parish Chief Julius Kyaligonza, who also owns the bar where the deceased worked, responded angrily to our reporter.

By the time of filing this story, efforts to obtain a comment from the police had been unsuccessful
