Kagadi
A 42-year-old UPDF officer has reportedly died from injuries allegedly sustained after being beaten by police officers during a night patrol operation in Kagadi District.
The deceased has been identified as Turyamureeba Ibrahim, a resident of Kichwamba B Lc1 in Kamuseegu Parish, Bwikara Sub- County, Kagadi District.
He has been a serving Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Officer attached to Kakiri Army barracks but who had come to the village for a pass leave.
According to John Kyomuhendo the Lc1 Chairperson of Kamuseegu Central, the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday when police officers aboard patrol vehicle number 999 from Kagadi Central Police Station reportedly stormed the trading centre.
The officers allegedly raided bars and a video cinema hall, beating people found inside while firing live bullets into the air.
Kyomuhendo said late Ibrahim sustained severe injuries during the operation and later died.
Eyewitnesses claim that during the operation, some of the arrested people were allegedly forced to surrender money, while others had their mobile phones confiscated.
They further alleged that when victims later attempted to report the matter, officers at Bwikara Police Station, including the OC and CID personnel, blocked them from officially registering complaints.
Led by the Bwikara Sub- County District Councilor, Kato Matia, local leaders strongly condemned the conduct of the police officers involved and called for justice from the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the central government.
Paradigm FM has learnt that police detectives from Kagadi Central Police Station visited the scene to begin investigations.
Ibrahim’s body was later taken to Kagadi Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Kagadi RDC and the District Police Commander (DPC) were futile by press time.
The deceased is survived by a wife and nine children.
This is the second reported incident involving the death of a UPDF officer in Kagadi District within two months.
Earlier this year, Private Akugizibwe Mbaale, also known as Omuhereza Tuhaise, was fatally shot during a dispute at a football match in Kyaterekera Town Council.
The soldier was allegedly shot on February 12, 2026, by a police officer identified as Umar, attached to Kyaterekera Police Station. The incident occurred during the final match of a community football tournament at Kitumba Playground, causing panic among spectators
