Kagadi

Five people have been confirmed dead following a measles outbreak in Kagadi District, raising concern among residents and health authorities.

According to Kagadi District health officials, the outbreak started in February, affecting the sub-counties of Kyakabadima, Kyaterekera, and Ndaiga. The officials suspected measles and sent samples to the Ministry of Health, which later confirmed the outbreak.

The outbreak initially claimed three lives, prompting health officials to put in place measures to control its spread and ensure early treatment. However, despite these efforts, new cases have emerged, leading to two more deaths.

Speaking to our reporter on Monday 30th, the Kagadi District Health Educator, Aisha Justine Tumwebaze, confirmed the deaths, noting that the victims were from Kyakabadima and Ndaiga.

Tumwebaze says some community members are not fully embracing preventive measures, which is worsening the situation. However, the district is now planning a mass measles vaccination campaign targeting all children starting on April 1.

Some residents affected by the outbreak, including those who lost their loved ones, have shared their experiences.

Residents say they are confused about the cause of the disease, especially since some of those affected were believed to have been vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the in-charge of Kyakabadima Health Centre III,Hill Albert, who preferred to speak off record says patients they receive at the facility present symptoms such as skin rash, red eyes, running nose, headaches, fever, and general body weakness.

He is urging residents to seek medical help immediately once these symptoms appear, to allow early diagnosis and treatment.

People in our communities should maintain measures of preventing measles For example taking children for immunization, isolating infected persons from un infected ones, reporting any cases of symptoms to the health workers, Let us all work together fight together and mostly fighting false prophecy which says if you take your child to be vaccinated it is not good for it comes from the devil Don’t allow un informed people to mislead you and take you to perish
