School administrators and parents at Lyanda SDA Primary School in Kyaterekera town council, Kagadi district are worried about the dilapidated buildings in which they conduct classes.
The mad and wattle two classroom blocks that host most classes have walls and roofs falling off and the school administrators fear that these could hurt pupils.
Moses Katusabe, the school headteacher says the school has only two permanent classroom blocks which were built by government and other semi-permanent structures were constructed by the community.
He says the school has an enrolment of 556 pupils, yet it lacks adequate facilities like classrooms, desks, toilets, water and teachers.
The situation compels teachers to share the same latrines with both boys and girls.
Katusabe adds that the school only has 6 government teachers who handle the overwhelming numbers of learners.
He says has made several complaints regarding the poor structures but less attention is given by both the district and Kyaterekera town council authorities.
Speaking to Bwambale Mauris the chairperson School Management Committee (SMC) says the school started in 1989 and lacks classroom blocks despite having a big learners’ enrolment.
He says the situation heads to the worst as the rainy season begins and calls for the immediate government intervention to accord the school a good learning environment.

Recently, the acting Kagadi District Education Officer (DEO) Beatrace Mbabazi said the district is grappling with an acute shortage of teachers which is affecting performance and management of government aided schools.
She said the district has a deficit of over 600 teachers, and the staffing crisis is affecting performance in UPE schools.
