Police in Kagadi district are investigating a murder case after a police officer shot and killed a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier at a football pitch in Kyaterekera town council.
The suspect has been identified as only Umalu attached to Kyaterekera Police post while the deceased is Omuhereza Tuhaise, a UPDF officer under interdiction and resident of Kitumba A cell, Kyaterekera east ward in Kyaterekera town council, Kagadi district.
The shooting happened Sunday evening at Kitumba playground during a football match between Supper Lions FC and Lyanda FC, the tournament sponsored by the Lions FC manager Innocent Tamwanga.
According to the eye witnesses, the suspect Umalu who had been deployed together with other six officers to man security at the playground developed an argument with the deceased who had declined to pay the 2000Shs entrance fee and watching the match through the openings of the makeshift enclosures.
The argument escalated prompting the suspect to shoot the deceased on the head dyeing instantly.
Residents have condemned the incident and the broader cases of gun violence across the country. They have called on security agencies and the personnel in possession of fire arms to use them for protection of lives and property but not harming innocent citizens.

The suspect has been arrested and detained at Kagadi central Police station custody, the gun exhibited while the body of the deceased was taken to Kagadi hospital mortuary for post mortem examination.
