The Albertine police have confirmed the arrest of their colleague officer who shot and killeda Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier during a football match at St.Peter’s catholic Primary School playground in Kitumba ward, Kyaterekera town council,Kagadi district.
The suspect has been identified as only Umalu attached to Kyaterekera Police post while the deceased is Omuhereza Tuhaise, a UPDF officer who was on pass leave and resident of Kitumba A cell, Kyaterekera East ward in Kyaterekera town council, Kagadi district.
The shooting happened on Sunday February 8, at St.Peter’s catholic Primary School playground in Kitumba ward, Kyaterekera town council during a football match final between Supper Lions FC and Lyanda FC, under the Go Back to School tournament sponsored by the Lions FC manager Innocent Tamwanga.
The Albertine Police spokesperson SP Allan Julius Hakiza, confirms that the suspect has been arrested and a murder case opened at Kagadi Central Police Station under the reference KGD CRB 152/2026.
Hakiza says the suspect Umalu who had been deployed together with other six officers to man security at the playground developed an argument with the deceased over 2000Shs entrance fee.
Hakiza added that, one of the clubs scored the goal and the deceased opened the fence to celebrate the scored goal. He was blocked by the police officer and a scuffle ensued, the deceased soldier confronted the suspect to disarm him, which prompted fatal shooting and loss of life.
