Police in Kagadi District are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who was found hanging inside his house in Kibanga Cell, Muhorro Town Council.
The deceased has been identified as Omuhereza Tugume Atugonza,a resident of Kibanga cell in Nyamiti ward Muhorro town council, Kagadi district.
Kibanga cell Chairperson Wilson Kadoma said residents alerted him about the incident early morning, prompting him to notify police at Muhorro Police Station.
Police later visited the scene and commenced investigations.
Kadoma said Tugume had dropped out of school and was struggling with alcohol and alleged marijuana use.
He suspects the substance use may have contributed to emotional and psychological challenges, although the exact circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death remain unclear.
The deceased’s elder brother, Elias Byakagaba, said Tugume returned home at around 10 p.m. the previous night, allegedly drunk.
Byakagaba said he called out to his brother in the morning but, after receiving no response, assumed he was unwilling to answer and went to work. He was later informed by residents that Tugume had been found dead.
Byakagaba described Tugume as a young person who had resorted to alcohol and alleged drug abuse instead of engaging in income-generating activities.
Meanwhile, Muhorro Town Council LC3 Chairperson Godfrey Nangonza has urged parents to ensure their children remain in school and provide proper guidance.
Nangonza has also called on people facing emotional or personal challenges to seek support from family members, friends, religious leaders and other trusted people.
By press time, police from Kagadi Central and Muhorro Police stations had visited the scene and authorized the family to proceed with burial arrangements.
