Following Uganda’s declaration as Ebola-free by the Ministry of Health on July 28, 2026, the Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNICEF, on Wednesday conducted an orientation workshop for District Information Officers and media practitioners at Gold Castle Hotel in Hoima City.
The training focused on strengthening capacity in risk communication and community engagement during public health emergencies.
Speaking to Paradigm FM after the workshop, the Ministry of Health’s Senior Communication Officer, Emmanuel Ainebyona, said the training was aimed at equipping journalists and District Information Officers with the skills to communicate health emergencies accurately and responsibly without causing unnecessary public panic.
Ainebyona said the orientation also emphasized the importance of relying on trusted and verified sources of information when reporting on disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
He urged journalists to continue educating the public on preventive measures that can help reduce the risk of future disease outbreaks in Uganda.
Ainebyona further welcomed investors, tourists, and business partners to Uganda, noting that the country has officially been declared Ebola-free and remains safe for business, tourism, and investment.
During the Ebola outbreak, Uganda declared the epidemic on May 15, 2026, following confirmation of imported cases from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The country recorded a total of 20 confirmed cases, with 18 patients recovering and two deaths. Of the confirmed cases, 15 were imported from the DRC, while five were Ugandan nationals who contracted the virus while caring for the imported patients.
