Residents of Kyamajaka Cell in Muhorro Town Council, Kagadi District, were left in shock after a chimpanzee attacked and injured a one-and-a-half-year-old child on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at the child’s home, where the toddler had reportedly been playing in the courtyard.
According to the mother, Mariam Kabasinguzi, the chimpanzee suddenly appeared, grabbed the child, and attempted to carry him away.
Kabasinguzi raised an alarm that attracted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the child from the animal.
The child sustained injuries during the attack and was immediately rushed for medical attention.
The toddler is currently admitted at Muhorro Parish Health Centre III, where health workers are monitoring the condition.
By press time, the Uganda Wildlife Authority had not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack.
