A-40-year-old man in Kagadi district has reportedly died after excessive alcohol consumption.

The deceased has been identified as only Rweigumya,a resident of Muhumbu Cell,in Kagadi town council Kagadi district.

His lifeless body was Monday morning recovered by residents lying near a bar along Kabalega road,behind Kagadi bus park in Kagadi town council,Kagadi district.

Samuel Murungi a relative to the deceased told Paradigm FM,that the deceased has been an alcohol addict and suspects to have died after excessive alcohol drinking without taking food.

By press time, police had not yet reached the scene which prompted the relatives to take the body to their home in Muhumbu for burial arrangements.

A World Health Organization (WHO) 2024 report states that 87 people per 100,000 in Uganda die from alcohol-related complications.

This significant mortality rate places Uganda among the highest in Africa for alcohol-related deaths, with Ugandan drinkers consuming an average of 28.5 liters of pure alcohol annually, far exceeding the African average.
