The Kagadi Resident District Commissioner, Caroline Nanshemeza has directed the Chief Administrative Officer Epodoi Pauline Opio to discipline civil servants who are fond of absconding from duty.
Nanshemeza sounded the warning in her key address to councilors during a council session for Kagadi district local government held at URDT Multipurpose hall earlier this week.
She was disappointed to find that the civil servants are often absent from duty while others report for work after 10: 00 am.The RDC also noted that there is generally low performance of the staff because some of them work for less than two hours and others go for weekends as early as Thursdays leaving their offices un attended to on Fridays.
Nanshemeza has directed the Chief Administrative Officer to take disciplinary measures against the officials who absentee, report to duty late or leave early without strong reasons.
She described the practice as corruption because the same absentee workers are paid by the government.
On the teachers ongoing national wide industrial action,RDC Nanshemeza directed them to return to class as government looks forward to addressing their demands of salary enhancements.
She warns that persistent abscondment from duty might cost some striking teachers their jobs, highlighting the impacts of the strike on the children’s future.
